Sometimes, HR systems can be very hard to understand. Consider the following (completely hypothetical, of course) email exchange.
Dear Catbert,
One of my team, Name Withheld will be on unpaid career break until 1st April 2005.
Team Leaderbert
Dear Team Leaderbert,
Career break for Name Withheld has been entered. You will find it has an end date of 31.12.05. When Name does return please advise us.

Dear Team Leaderbert,
A template has to be actioned on [the corporate website] and sent to HR Admin.
Catbert
Dear Catbert,
Would you by any chance have the URL of the template I need? I can't seem to find it.
Team Leaderbert
Dear Team Leaderbert,
Your manager can change your Supervisor and Title details by clicking on [link name removed] and completing the Organisational Management Maintenance Template #2. Forward to the [HR name removed] dropbox.
Catbert
Dear Catbert,
I don't want to change Supervisor and Title details. What I need to do is re-instate a member of my team who has taken unpaid leave. Name Withheld will be returning to work on 01/04/2005 and I need to tell you about this. Could you provide me with detailed instructions on how to do so?
Team Leaderbert
Dear Team Leaderbert,
No further action is required from your behalf. Name's career break now ends as at 31st March 2005.

Could never happen here.
