Epping to Chatswood Railway | February 2009 |
As I mentioned in my blog, a new railway line has opened between Epping and Chatswood. One of the new stations - Macquarie Park - is close to where I work so I have been using it to commute. The following photos are all from Macquarie Park.
I love new railways - everything is so clean and neat and the tunnels are straight.
There is a sort of mezzanine level where you can look down on the platform. The lines are elegant and the light excellent.
The way out is marked by a sort of semi-circular monumental gateway.
This is looking back down the main escalator. There is a tall glass elevator at the rear of the photo which is quite elegant.
Up the final escalator beneath the glass canopy. I really like the way they have used light and space in this station.
From the outside it is not quite so impressive, looking like a cross between a Star Trek shuttle and a giant beetle. On the whole, however, I approve. It's a real pity that they didn't take it all the way to Parramatta as originally planned.
